weeks 11-12

My main aims for my level now are to finalize the scripting for the credits page and then build the entire level and it will be ready to play fully.

i will also be workin on my production analysis, updating any areas needing it and i will be going over all feedback i recieved for my past testing and heuristic reports and seeing how/if it affected how i continued working on my level.

this is a screenshot of the outside and inside of my cave  prior to the changes made to make it into a maze.

weeks 5-10

During these weeks i will be working on my level design and also working on testing and heuristic feedback, as well as updating my level design document whenever needed.

After having a 1 to 1 with my unity tutor i have recieved feedback saying that the concept sounds interesting but that i will have to keep an eye on the programming as it could easily spiral out of control and ruin the project. Due to this informatin i will be studying unity programming/scripting tutorials in my spare time so that i can try to avoid any problems to come.

Upon reaching the later stages of game production i have run into large problems with the programming as i was warned, even after watching and reading various tutorials on programming and scripting i have still run into this problem and can find no way of solving it, the problem is;
when trying to program a trigger to remove a "life" it does not occur i have gone over and over the scripting watched endless amounts of videos and read hundreds of tutorials, due to this i have to change some parts of my level to work around this programming problem, therefore my level will now be a more maze/puzzle based adventure level.

After all of the problems i have had with the programming, i have lost a lot of time and am behind on my production, i will now need all of the time i can spare to work on this level to get it completed.

weeks 1-4

The aim of this blog is to talk about what things i learn and what i have to do in the process of creating my own playable level using unity.

-I have been introduced to unity and taught the main mechanics of the game, such as how to pan the camera by using the right mouse button, and how to zoom in and out using the mouse scroller.
-Taught about terrain, how to create terrain using the terrain tab then clicking create terrain, upon doing so it is possible to edit the terrain using different "brushes" to create things like mountains hills etc. Once the desired effects are created it is possible to paint the terrain using a texture and the "paint terrain" button next to the create terrain in the tools tab on the right.
-Taught about importing files from 3d creation programs such as 3ds max, this is done by firstly exporting a 3d object from MAX as an FBX. file and then importing it as an asset into unity where it will appear as a prefab which can be draggd into the scene and used right away.

First assignement "level design document" has passed and everyone including myself has moved onto working on their levels, therefore there will not be alot i can update this blog with unless i bump into any new discoveries along the way.
